Interesting to note is that TopRockInternet.com ranks differently for the term internet marketing denver in all 3 search engines. We are number 7 in yahoo, 18 in msn, and 36 in google. Please keep in mind that the site was originally launched with the wrong title tag and h1 tag (Internet Marketing Expert in Denver). MSN and Yahoo both spidered the site during that time which was not our intention (google did not). It is not a coincidence that there is still some remnants of that mistake when looking into ranking for the jeyword "internet marketing denver." Past history is being utilized in both MSN and Yahoo to create these rankings, particularly MSN. We have demonstrated this pretty clearly with past websites as well with some sites starting as low as 170 for the keyword and slowly ascending over a 60 day period into the top 10 results for their selected keywords (competitive terms not underwater basketweaving).
It is important to note that we did not build this site specifically to rank for one or two keywords as we might recommend to particular clients. Instead, this is a company website that talks about all the range of skillsets we are able to bring into a project. If we wanted to step up our intensity, the site would really have one and only one keyword focus. Albeit, for purposes of study, we did put a particular emphasis upon Denver Internet Marketing to demonstrate some of our techniques the enable fairly good placement on an accelerated timeline.

1 week ago we submitted the site to google local, yahoo local and MSN Live local searches
1 week ago we submitted the site for inclusion in DMOZ.org (if you have not done this DO IT NOW)
2 weeks ago we added some links (about 10) to the site from some client sites that rank well for completely unrelated keywords.
2 weeks ago we completely readjusted the site for keywords and other items.
We will start a small budget Internet marketing campaign for TopRockInternet.com and treat is like one of our current or potential customers who would be paying us a monthly fee for SEO. This will begin at the beginning of April. We will write some posts about what we are doing and why we are conducting that type of work.
In the interim, we will add the site into approximately 30-40 other websites that we are providing marketing and/or web design for as our company name is already present on most of those systems, but does not have a link established. The benefits of these links in terms of SEO will not be substantial as the neighborhood of these links will not be exact and the IP address of the sites will be nearly identical. Our purpose for creating those links is more for acknowledgement than any type of SEO or Internet marketing tactic.
