Internet Marketing Denver | SEO for MSN

E-mail Print PDF

TopRockInternet.com was launched on February 16th, 2010 with the intention of ranking high for denver seo and internet marketing denver.  The problem is that we went live with this particular site development just before we were ready to be indexed by msn.com, yahoo.com and google.com.  As a result, our site was visited by msn.com with the wrong title tag and some other poorly structured information!

As noted in a previous article, we were looking for a high ranking under denver seo or internet marketing denver.  Instead, the title was cached as saying Internet Marketing Expert in Denver for both yahoo and msn.  As of this writing, google has not updated its site cache and still shows our web site as being under construction.  The incorrect title tag is a pretty serious mistake and it certainly cost us relatively significant ranking in this first indexing by these two search engines.... Well, it is what it is as we say.

Let's take a look at the ranking of the site for internet marketing expert in denver and also internet marketing expert denver to make some evaluations and possibly draw some helpful conclusions in msn.com and yahoo.com.

Currently, our site ranks at number 17 in msn.com for "internet marketing expert in denver" as well as "internet marketing expert denver."  Incidentally, there are 2,370,000 web page matches found for those 2 terms.  If you search for toprockinternet.com under the term "denver seo" we cannot be found.  In addition, if you search for toprockinternet.com under the term "internet marketing denver", we cannot be found.  Let's evaluate why ....  MSN puts a huge emphasis into the title of a web site.  This includes both the meta title as well as the h1 (header 1) tag.  Since we used the words internet marketing expert in denver (in the meta title), we are logically showing up highly for that term.  We are not on the front page for that particular term because we did not repeat that exact title in the h1 tag of the home page.  In addition, because we put in the words "expert in", the string is not completed consecutively and therefore we are also making a complete "no show" for the term internet marketing denver.  Going further, we have absolutely no chance in ranking for denver seo in msn.com until the word seo is shown in the title and most likely used in succession with denver (i.e. denver seo).  This will be especially true for our site because it was only 2 DAYS OLD prior to its first indexing.  We have not really started to do much link building to this point.  The only thing we could have been able to harness for rankings was the on-page seo factors and we screwed it up.  Let's hope that we get a second chance to make a first impression ...

Yahoo has indexed the site, but has not fully placed us into the SERPs (search engine results pages).  It is hard to get an evaluation at this point.  Although we have our suspicions as to where we will ultimately rank for denver seo, internet marketing denver and others.  We will keep you posted as soon as we being to show inside of the top 100.

On a side note, google.com won't really care what we utilize in our title tag or h1 tags for the most part.  Denver seo, Internet Marketing, whatever .....  Google will use our meta title and header 1 (h1)to figure out what our site is about and what general neighborhood we belong, but that is about where it will end.  Google rankings are not significantly effected by poor title tags or h1 tags provided that you have not gone from selling apples to selling oranges.  This is based on our past experiences.
